　　Without tax break, BP abandons Alaska heavy-oil project

　　Alaska Dispatch reports that BP has decided to scale back it's costly North Slope exploration project due to ongoing debates over the state's oil-tax cut, which would encourage long-term development.

　　BP will shift its focus toward more conventional, short-term projects, including increasing efficiency of current production facilities.

　　Alaskan Gov. Sean Parnell originally proposed cutting oil production taxes by as much as $2 billion a year, depending on the price of oil, but the Alaskan State Senate did not approve the proposal.

　　BP had promised to work on developing heavy oil by implementing new technologies in Alaska and had already drilled three heavy oil wells in the Ugnu oil deposit, producing up to several hundred barrels per day. This project, among others, is now being terminated due to deadlock over the state's oil production tax regime, according to Alaska Dispatch.
